Recovery Point Objective (RPO) dictates the maximum acceptable threshold of data loss measured in time. An RPO of 1 hour means you can tolerate losing up to one hour's worth of transactional data or updates. Achieving near-zero RPO requires continuous replication and synchronous database clustering, whereas higher RPOs can rely on scheduled snapshots or incremental backup schedules.
